About This Product

What is IGF-1 LR3?

IGF-1 LR3 is a modified version of IGF-1, the growth factor that carries much of growth hormone’s effect. It has two changes: an extra 13 amino acids at its start (“Long”) and an arginine in place of glutamic acid at position 3 (“R3”). That makes 83 amino acids, about 9.1 kDa.

Australian researchers built it in the early 1990s. It is widely used to grow cells in culture, because it keeps working where natural IGF-1 gets trapped.

How does it work?

  • IGF-1 receptor: it switches on the same receptor as IGF-1, driving growth and protein building through PI3K/Akt and mTOR.
  • Free of binding proteins: blood and tissue are full of IGF binding proteins that trap natural IGF-1. LR3 barely binds them, so more of it stays active, for longer.
  • Stronger in tests: in rats, IGF-1 variants that bind poorly to these proteins were more anabolic than IGF-1 itself.

What do researchers study it for?

  • IGF-1 receptor signalling and muscle cell growth
  • Satellite cell and muscle repair biology
  • Cell culture and bioprocessing
  • Comparisons with HGH 191AA, IGF-DES and MGF
