About This Product

What is kisspeptin-10?

Kisspeptin-10 is a peptide of ten amino acids (YNWNSFGLRF-NH2): the active end of kisspeptin, a hormone made in the brain. Kisspeptin was first named metastin, and kisspeptin-10 is its residues 45 to 54.

In 2003, researchers found that people without a working kisspeptin receptor (GPR54, now KISS1R) never go through puberty. Kisspeptin turned out to be the switch above GnRH.

How does it work?

  • KISS1R: it binds this receptor on the brain’s GnRH neurons.
  • GnRH, then LH and FSH: those neurons release GnRH, which makes the pituitary release LH and FSH.
  • Gentler than GnRH: in healthy men, kisspeptin raised LH and FSH less than GnRH itself.

What do researchers study it for?

  • Puberty and the start of the reproductive axis
  • GnRH pulse generation
  • Links between metabolism and reproduction
  • Comparisons with gonadorelin and hCG
